A short review in the Seattle Times doesn’t have much positive to say about the Hank Williams based movie ‘The Last Ride’.
A key paragraph goes like this:
But, alas, “The Last Ride” doesn’t deliver much insight into Williams or the lifestyle that killed him. And while there are some sweet moments, it’s riddled with clichés about the South, masculinity and coming of age. No doubt because of licensing expenses, not one Hank Williams performance appears on the soundtrack.
How can anyone make a movie about an artist/entertainer/writer as great as, “Hank Williams” and not use his vocals? How can you tell a person’s life story and fictionalize the story line? This does nothing to enhance the memory, or honor, “Hank Williams”! It does just the opposite, presenting a mish mosh of trash,, hollywood B movie that presents a product that has nothing to do with Hank Williams. It’s unfortunate that this could have been something that would revive good old country music, but to feed this crap to today’s youth as, “what Hanlk was about” is a crime! Do it right, or don’t do it at all! Rock Harley Det MI.
Thanks for the comment Rock. You seem to represent the majority for sure. I’m guessing you probably liked the Cash biography.
For all the Cash fans out there, I invite you to click on Rock Harley’s name on his comment above to go to his web site. He is a Cash tribute artist. He has a great new self penned record called ‘Black Cadillac’ you can hear on the site.
